Chief Executive Officer

Dr. David Naylor
David was previously an Associate Professor, Dept of Computer Science, at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and is now President and Chief Executive Officer of Starthis. David received a BA in Physics from the University of Oxford (1980). He received MS (1984) and PhD (1988) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California and joined the UIC faculty in 1988.

At UIC his activities included: software development for remote control of collections of electronics test equipment, software design using leading edge tools, operator interface design, and the development of instructional and training materials, and over 20 years of experience in: assessing the impact of hardware and software evolution, managing teams of technologists, and creating dynamic working environments that foster innovation.

Chief Technology Officer

Stephan Werges
Stephan is the Lead Software Developer for the iTapestry software platform. Prior to co-founding Starthis, he was Lead Software Engineer in the Interactive Systems Laboratory at UIC. His expertise and experience included: distributed object systems large-scale object oriented software engineering; expert systems; seven years as a computer systems administrator; and five years managing teams of system administrators

Stephan is coauthor of the technology covered by a patent application for an “Online system for configuration and performance of measurement requests”. He is responsible for optimum leveraging of leading edge software technologies and oversees the activities and ongoing professional development of the team of software developers at Starthis. Stephan graduated with an M.S. in Computer Science from UIC in May 2001.

Vice President of Sales

Mike Borgstadt
Mike has over 20 years of sales/management experience providing myriad application solutions for manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, supply chain management and transporting crossing multiple industries and markets, inclusive of automotive, Dept. of Defense, agricultural, hospitality consumer goods, 3PL and others focused on improving clients' profitability productivity and market competitiveness. Notable clients – G.M., Daimler-Chrysler, W.W. Grainger, John Deere, Procter & Gamble, Conagra, Hunt-Wesson, Safeway Stores, Del Monte Foods, McGaw Labs, American Hospital Supply. Formica, Hilton Corp., Marriott Corp., Inland Steel, Ryerson Steel. In addition, Mike was a contributing member/associate of a number of standards committees for DOD, Logmars, HIBCC, AIAG, ANSI MH10/sbc 8, writing specifications for industry standards that guide industry today.

Prior to joining Starthis, Mike was Sr. VP/Sales for Turningpoint Systems, Inc., and in management and/or business development with HK Systems/irista, Renaissance Software, and CEO/Pres. for B & A, Inc., providing custom application solutions and systems integration to companies in need of a variety of IT application needs.

Vice President of Marketing

Steven Chastain
Steve brings a wealth of high-tech marketing experience to his role at Starthis, and a highly successful track record of bringing software products to market. For his previous three years he worked as a consultant to numerous technology firms in senior marketing management; including OctetString Software, PharmaStandards, The Partner Group, TeraBridge Technologies, Ceregen, Keshet School, and Alltech Associates.

At Cerestar USA, a 1.8 billion dollar division, Steve was in charge of Marketing and Information Services and was responsible for their commercial website and CRM implementation. Steve also served as a successful software product manager at SPSS for three years, including well known products like SYSTAT and SPSS Exact Tests. At SPSS, Steve was the category manager for data mining applications, data access interfaces and mainframe products. SPSS products under his direct control sold over 4 million dollars. Steve has an MS in Science and MBA Degrees.

Chief Information Officer

Richard Ritthaler
Prior to joining Starthis, Rich was a Senior IT Consultant at Accenture for nine years. At Accenture he worked with the CIO Security organization to create new security standards for Microsoft Operating Systems; and identified security gaps in network, operating system, and applications in multiple Accenture offices. In addition, he performed cost/benefit analyses and provided recommendations on host-based intrusion software products on all Accenture production servers, and created the Windows 2000 server security standard for the Internet and Web Hosting group. Rich was responsible for special purpose remote access solutions including analog dial-up, ISDN, and VPN, and he designed, implemented, and maintained anti-virus solutions for the production servers in the Northbrook data center.

Rich has over fifteen years of experience in network, security and systems adminstration. At Starthis, Rich is responsible for the company's IT infrastructure and the configuration and maintenance of IT, networking hardware, and enterprise applications used in demonstration systems. He is also supervising the systems security aspects in the technical design team for a US Department of Homeland Security contract.

Senior Advisor

David Anderson
David has 35 years of leadership experience at the highest levels of American business. He has served as a senior corporate business development, strategy, legal and P&L officer positions for GATX Corporation and for Inland Steel Industries, Inc.

He has sourced and executed dozens of joint ventures and alliances, including a $1.2BN venture between Inland and Nippon Steel of Japan. While at GATX and Inland, David held responsibilities for several start-up ventures and non-core business units. He has extensive post-merger integration experience, having served as CEO of several newly acquired businesses or joint ventures, domestically and internationally. David spent 11 years as Assistant General Counsel for American Hospital Supply (Baxter / Cardinal Healthcare), where he did over 20 domestic and international acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures. Most recently, David served as Executive Vice-President for a venture backed B2B e-commerce company serving the Metals Industry.
