Starthis iTapestry is
A suite of Enterprise Java Beans (EJB's) and Connectors that provide data connectivity between Business Systems and Plant Control Systems.

The EJB's and Connectors are deployed on J2EE Application Servers such as IBM's WebSphere, BEA's WebLogic or JBoss.

iTapestry Connectivity Suite

With the release of Starthis Version 4.0 Enterprise Solution, Starthis has released a new improved version 3.0 of the Starthis Connectivity Suite.

The iTapestry Connectivity Suite is the data management engine within the award winning Manufacturing Information solution. The Suite includes the tools used to access, move and display real-time data dynamically throughout the enterprise.

The iTapestry Suite consists of Enterprise JavaBeans and Connectors.

The iTapestry Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB's) provide direct connectivity with industrial automation devices such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The Enterprise Java Beans are software components, which encapsulate and replicate the behavior of an automation device. Data is always translated into the native format of the device by the Bean. The structure of the Bean insures complete data consistency as data is dynamically moved to and from the device. The Bean handles data in the same, small footprint, binary format as the device which also minimizes the network traffic and bandwidth. The Bean provides the real-time dynamic data communication tools.

The iTapestry Suite provides Connectors to communicate with several standards based industrial network protocols including EtherNet/IP and Modbus/TCP. This facilitates communication with combinations of network protocols and disparate devices in the plant. For example, Modbus/TCP is used as a network protocol by several device vendors. Connectors are used to manage the messages sent through the industrial network. The Connector encapsulates the behavior of the specific industrial network protocol (such as EtherNet/IP or Modbus/TCP) and translates the messages into a network packet. To minimize network traffic, the packet is arranged as compactly and efficiently as possible, and where possible, multiple requests may be grouped and performed using a single packet. The Connector handles all the input/output (I/O) functions including the scheduling, conversion, placing the message on the network, waiting for the response and converting it back to the original format.

The iTapestry Suite Connector architecture is unique and is the only Java library written specifically for the full EtherNet/IP specification including all user defined data types, UCCM, and explicit messages. For more information on the EtherNet/IP industrial networking standard see the web site or publications of the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA: www.odva.org).

The iTapestry Suite moves data dynamically to and from the plant floor control devices, enterprise applications and also browser-based operator displays. Dynamic operator displays are created in the HMI builder. The resulting Java Server Pages and serves are used to pull real-time information dynamically from the Enterprise Java Bean using the Connector via the industrial network. This information can be displayed in a browser window, anywhere within the enterprise, for use by anyone with authorization. The Java Server pages provide the tools to display data dynamically anywhere in the facility.

The iTapestry Suite provides the tools to directly connect to industrial control devices, read and write data to the device, move it over the industrial network and display anywhere within the enterprise. This is the engine behind the Starthis Enterprise Manufacturing Information System.
